Angry Axel

Axel’s horns go red when he’s angry. Today they are VERY red.

Anger has a warning sign

When Axel’s feeling gets big, his cream-white horns turn red from the bottom up, like a thermometer. In the book he learns to spot it, stand still, and say the word out loud. You can do the same three steps at home.

  1. Notice it. Where does angry show up in your body? Hot face, tight fists, loud voice, fast heart — those are your “horns going red.”
  2. Stop and stand still. Feet planted. Nothing else yet.
  3. Say it out loud. “I feel ANGRY.” Naming the feeling is the whole trick. What happens next is a choice.

Talk about it

How could you tell Axel was getting angry? Where do you feel angry in your body? Feelings are allowed — it’s what we do next that counts.

Try it together

Practice the words when everyone is calm — silly voice, big voice, whisper. Then in real life all a grown-up has to say is “your horns are going red.”
