Dr Hb Lo — family doctor and dad
Hi, I'm Dr Hb Lo. I'm a family doctor (general practitioner) in Australia, and a dad of two.
Enimates grew out of the same conversations I have every week — with families in my clinic and with my own kids at the dinner table: how do we help children understand what they're feeling?
The 24 Enimates characters are built on Robert Plutchik's wheel of emotions, a framework psychologists have used for decades to map how feelings relate to each other — how they come in sizes, how they pair up, and what each one is for. The activities and parent notes draw on well-studied approaches to social-emotional learning, including the RULER method developed at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and the CASEL framework used in schools worldwide.
What this site is — and isn't
This site is educational. It's here to help families build a shared vocabulary for feelings, and to share what emotion science says about how children learn to understand and manage them.
This site is not medical advice. Nothing here is a diagnosis, treatment, or a substitute for seeing a health professional who knows your child. Every child is different, and general information can never account for your child's individual situation.
If you're ever worried about your child's emotional wellbeing, the right next step is a conversation with your family doctor, pediatrician, or a qualified mental health professional. Our Getting Help page lists trusted starting points by country.
My scope here
On this site I write as an author and educator, not as your treating doctor. I don't provide individual health advice through this site, its email list, or its social accounts — and I'll always redirect those questions to your own health professional, because that's who can actually help.
